Missouri Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education — Making a positive difference through education and service — March 2007 Dear School Administrator: The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education maintains a file of emerging classroom leaders that consists of a cadre of distinguished teachers. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for special recognition programs, such as the Milken National Educator Awards. Your recommendations will identify educators who are of great value to your community and state and who may also ultimately receive recognition. We are very fortunate to have a rich base of veteran educators represented in our current talent pool. They have been and continue to be a valuable resource in our state efforts. What we are particularly seeking at this time is representation from secondary classroom teachers with experience of 5 to 18 years. These individuals should demonstrate unusual instructional and leadership ability. Such persons should exhibit a strong potential for professional leadership and an inspiring presence that impacts students, colleagues and community. Candidates are to be middle or high school classroom teachers, as opposed to specialists, and are recognized by peers and supervisors as unique in their growth. Occasionally a principal or specialist is considered. We are seeking teachers who are outstanding but have not necessarily received other recognition. Please provide CONFIDENTIAL, succinct, and specific information regarding one candidate on the enclosed form. (Any number of teachers may be nominated, but it must be one per "recommendation" form.) All questions must be answered, preferably typewritten. A one-page narrative letter must be submitted with this form that addresses how the candidate meets the criteria mentioned in this letter as well as a resume from his/her personnel file. We ask that you keep this recommendation confidential and do not share it with the individual. Complete information must be returned by May 15, 2007 to: Commissioner's Office Your cooperation and assistance is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, D. Kent King |
