1998 Distribution and Follow-up Activities

 

  1. During the first week of February 1998, Dr. Marilou Joyner sent a letter to all District Administrators thanking them for their support for the 1997 Census and asking for their support for the 1998 Census.

  3. February 13, 1998 the District forms and Building forms were mailed to each of the technology points of contact that were identified during the 1997 Census. March 13th was the deadline for completion.
  4. District Census Form -- 525 districts

    Building Census Form -- 2,132 core data buildings

     

  5. Several of the larger districts requested that special accommodations be put in place for them to administer their forms.
  6. Springfield -- one bulk mailing was mailed to the District Technology Coordinator for him to administer the survey during their monthly technology meeting.

     

    Kansas City -- March 2nd OSEDA staff attended the monthly technology meeting for the Kansas City School District. Forms were given to each building contact and questions were answered about the forms during the meeting.

     

    St. Louis City -- The District Technology Coordinator received the full set of forms for the district. The district mailed the forms out and collected them to return to OSEDA.

     

  7. During this time period several messages were placed on various list-serves asking that the Districts and Buildings get their forms turned in on time. A message was placed on the Project CONNECT district coordinators list-serve reminding the coordinators of the census emphasizing the importance of completing it.

  9. During the first week in April a second mailing was sent to all the Building points of contact which had not responded.

  11. During the second week in April follow up telephone calls, were made by OSEDA personnel to districts and buildings that had not responded.

  13. During the first week in May a third mailing was sent to all District and Building points of contact which had not responded.
  14.  

  15. During the month of June OSEDA personnel did a second round of follow up telephone calls to each of the points of contact. At this time if the point of contact was not available the Superintendent’s office was contacted.

  17. During the second week of July DESE personnel made phone calls to about a dozen larger districts that had not responded.

  19. On July 31, 1998, the Census of Technology database was closed for analysis.
