Nutrition and Physical Activity the 100 Way
Nutrition and Physical Activity the 100 Way encourages youth between the ages of 8-18, especially African-American males, to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables and engage in 60 minutes of physical activity daily. The curriculum introduces the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, includes practical strategies for adding physical activity and nutrition education into youth activities, and promotes healthy meal and snack options at program meetings and events. Youth are encouraged to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors through activities such as taste tests, simple food preparation, and participation in group projects and discussions. While the curriculum was developed primarily for African-American males, it was pilot tested with males and females and most of the youtJuly 17, 2008p; The information and activities included in the curriculum have broad application.
