EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or above required in Career and Technical Education, Technology Education, Engineering Education, technology and engineering-related administration or field from an accredited four-year college or university.  Some business and industry experience preferred but not required. 

 

Five years experience in educational leadership, career education, technology and engineering and/or industrial--related practice or administration, or teaching, preferably in a career education setting.

 

(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

 

Travel may be required with expenses reimbursed at the approved rate.

 

Knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and current trends in Engineering and Technology.

 

Ability to communicate and express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.

 

Ability to organize and conduct meetings on topics integrating STEM.

 

Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with professional and lay persons within and outside the agency.

 

Knowledge of principles and practices of career education with extensive knowledge of programs within Engineering and Technology.

 

Knowledge of, and ability to articulate and connect, current research, instructional strategies and effective student engagement practices to classroom conditions at the elementary, secondary, adult, and post-secondary levels.

 

Knowledge of current research on teaching and learning theory as it pertains to elementary, secondary, post-secondary and adult learners and their instructors.

 

Knowledge of administration of career education including an understanding of state-federal and state-local relationships and applicable laws and regulations.

 

Ability to work cooperatively with other sections within the department and individuals representing inter-related agencies and organizations.

 

 

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

 

Provides technical assistance in the promotion, initiation, development, and evaluation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs to reinforce academic education and integrate with workforce and college readiness activities. 

 

Serves as state liaison for Project Lead the Way (engineering).

 

Serves as state liaison for Missouri Technology Student Association (TSA).

 

Serves as state liaison - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST).

 

Provides and disseminates information to applicable stakeholders.

 

Advises public institutions as they develop and implement career education programs in technology and engineering; recommends local program approval based on Department guidelines.

 

Advises local schools and individuals regarding educator and student licensure/certification requirements and program accreditation requirements for STEM integration.

 

Plans individual and group professional development activities designed to support and enhance instructor competence and student achievement in engineering and technology. 

 

Develops and implements grant award programs as appropriate.

 

Facilitates and supervises curriculum development, dissemination and professional development.

 

Revises and makes recommendations on proposals for new programs, budgetary items, payments to schools, and professional development of local instructional staff.

 

Serves on local program accrediting and certification teams.   

 

Performs other related work as assigned.

BENEFITS (For a Full-Time Position)

 

ANNUAL LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month for new full-time employees, longer term State employees can earn more. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.

 

SICK LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month.  Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.

 

HOLIDAYS:  12 holidays per year.

 

RETIREMENT:  Coverage provided through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).

 

LIFE INSURANCE:  Term life insurance coverage, equal to one times employee's annual salary, through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System.

 

OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE:  Optional term life insurance available with maximum coverage of six times member’s annual salary.  Plans are also offered for spouse and dependents. Premiums paid by employee.

 

CAFETERIA PLAN:  Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.

 

HEALTH PLANS:  Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first day of the following month after employment.

 

DENTAL PLANS:  Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.

 

VISION PLAN:  Vision Service Plan (VSP) is available. 

 

DEFERRED COMPENSATION:  A payroll deduction deferred compensation plan available to defer taxes until retirement by investing in mutual funds and a fixed income account is currently provided.
