Possession of a Bachelor's or
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in
Deaf Education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of modern practices, techniques and methods of
teaching as this applies to the area of education for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing.
Ability to use constructive behavior management in a
classroom.
Ability to assess needs of students and develop
program accordingly.
Ability to work effectively with students and peers.
Ability to meet the required American Sign Language
competency level of Advanced within 3 years of hire date.
Ability to communicate effectively through writing,
reading and/or speech and sign language.
Ability to make accurate observations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, staff and parents.

Teaches subject matter appropriate to educational
background and certification.
Develops, implements and evaluates the individual
educational plan for each student.
Plans and outline class work within prescribed limits;
assembles and prepares learning materials for special study.
Keeps scholastic and attendance records.
Gives individual instruction and encouragement as
needed.
May operate as part of a teaching team.
May assist in teacher training of peers and student
teachers/interns.
Participates in conferences/meetings with parents.
Confers with building Supervisor and/or parents regarding
students' needs, progress and/or abilities.
Performs related work as assigned.

VACATION: Generally accrue 5.04 hours per pay
period for new employees.
SICK LEAVE: Generally accrue 5.04 hours per pay period.
FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE: After 12 months or 1250 hours of
employment, 12 weeks of unpaid leave is available for employees as laid out in
the policy.
ORGAN/BONE MARROW DONATION LEAVE: 5 workdays given for bone marrow donation and
30 workdays given for organ donation.
SCHOOL-VISIT LEAVE: Up to 8 hours of paid leave for assisting
in the classroom with curricular activities or visiting with child’s teacher on
curricular activities and other events as outlined in the policy.
HOLIDAYS: 11 holidays per year.
RETIREMENT: Vested after five years of creditable service.
LIFE INSURANCE: Free basic life insurance coverage equal to one-times
the employee's annual salary. The minimum coverage amount will
remain $15,000.
OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE: Employee may purchase up to 6 times their annual
salary. Spouse and children life insurance coverage is
available.
CAFETERIA PLAN: Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted
insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.
HEALTH PLANS: Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first of the
following month after employment.
DENTAL PLANS: Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.
VISION PLAN: Vision Service Plan (VSP) is available.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Up to six counseling visits per
episode per family member per year.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees may enroll in the State of
