QUALIFICATIONS
DESIRABLE CANDIDATES SHOULD POSSESS

High school graduate or G.E.D.
Three years of progressively responsible experience in secretarial work.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint including PageMaker. Through knowledge of standard office equipment.
Ability to work in an organized manner with minimum supervision and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
Working knowledge of web-based applications or ability to quickly learn these processes.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
PERFORMED
Assists in setting up complex database files, logging in data into database files, and running queries and reports of database files.
Prepares contracts for state and national presenters as well as other professional development related educational groups.
Follows through with acquiring necessary signatures of designated parties within DESE and other contractual parties.
Assists in typing expense reports as well as invoices and other reports.
Communicates with internal personnel and people outside of DESE by telephone and/or correspondence.
Prepares periodic reports on amount of money spent from particular funds.
Assists supervisors with preparations for upcoming meetings and workshops.
Prepares and/or updates applications and brochures for programs.
Maintains section website.
Composes and types correspondence and inter-office communications dealing with routine matters, following specified procedures and/or oral instruction.
Types a variety of material, often technical in nature, working from rough draft or notes, proofreads completed work.
Sets up and organizes files; sorts, classifies, and files materials; purges obsolete material; removes and returns material requested from files.
Arranges travel and accommodations, and other administrative support functions.
Operates standard office equipment, such as calculator, copy machine, fax machine, electric typewriter, word processor, personal computer, and/or computer terminal keyboard with video display.
Other duties as assigned.

BENEFITS
(For a Full-Time Position)
VACATION: Generally accrue 10 hours
per month for employees with up to ten years of creditable service.
SICK LEAVE:
Generally accrue 10 hours per month.
FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE: After 12 months or 1250 hours of employment, 12 weeks of
unpaid leave is available for employees as laid out in the policy.
ORGAN/BONE MARROW DONATION LEAVE: 5 workdays given for bone marrow donation and 30 workdays
given for organ donation.
SCHOOL-VISIT LEAVE: Up to 8 hours of paid leave for assisting in the classroom
with curricular activities or visiting with child’s teacher on curricular
activities and other events as outlined in the policy.
HOLIDAYS: 12
holidays per year.
RETIREMENT:
Vested after five years of creditable service.
LIFE INSURANCE:
Free basic life insurance coverage equal to one-times the employee's
annual salary. The minimum coverage amount will remain $15,000.
OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE:
Employee may purchase up to 6 times their annual salary. Spouse and children
life insurance coverage is available.
CAFETERIA
PLAN: Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted
insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.
HEALTH PLANS:
Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first of the following month after
employment.
DENTAL PLANS: Delta
Dental insurance coverage is available.
VISION PLAN: Vision
Service Plan (VSP) is available.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Up to six counseling visits per episode per family
member per year.
