Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in education, adult education or closely related field. 


(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)






Proficient in Microsoft Office software.


Knowledge of effective strategies and best practices in the field of education or training.


Knowledge and/or experience with one or more of the following areas:

·         Adult Basic Education

·         English as a Second Language (ESL)

·         Curriculum Planning and Current Teaching Principles

·         Professional Development

·         Grant and Contract Management

·         Testing and Assessment


Able to communicate effectively and express ideas, both orally and in writing.


Knowledge of data research and statistical analysis systems, including indicators of education progress and success.   


Knowledge of effective strategies and best practices to support education and training.


Ability to prepare and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines, and technical manuals.


Ability to communicate effectively and express ideas, both orally and in writing.


Establish and maintain effective working relationship with local administrators and staff.


Travel may be required with travel expenses reimbursed at the approved rate.






Provides effective communication to local AEL programs on planning and implementation of AEL activities and services in the form of technical assistance/guidance to local AEL programs and high school equivalency testing (GED).


Assists in managing various functions of the section as assigned by the Section Director, i.e. distance learning, monitoring of local programs, GED, professional development requirements for local AEL teachers, postsecondary education transitions.


Assists section director in implementing federal/state policies procedures relating to the operation of the AEL program.


Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local school officials, community colleges, local community-based organizations, civic leaders, business industry, and social services groups.


Create reports as needed by local AEL programs or AEL staff.


Performs other related work as assigned.

BENEFITS (For a Full-Time Position)


ANNUAL LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month for new full-time employees, longer term State employees can earn more. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.


SICK LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month.  Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.


HOLIDAYS:  12 holidays per year.


RETIREMENT:  Coverage provided through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).


LIFE INSURANCE:  Term life insurance coverage, equal to one times employee's annual salary, through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System.


OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE:  Optional term life insurance available with maximum coverage of six times member’s annual salary.  Plans are also offered for spouse and dependents. Premiums paid by employee.


CAFETERIA PLAN:  Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.


HEALTH PLANS:  Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first day of the following month after employment.


DENTAL PLANS:  Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.


VISION PLAN:  Vision Service Plan (VSP) is available. 


DEFERRED COMPENSATION:  A payroll deduction deferred compensation plan available to defer taxes until retirement by investing in mutual funds and a fixed income account is currently provided.
