Master’s degree in education or closely related field and successful experience in managing or administering a significant special program or project.


Minimum 3-5 years of experience in education and business and industry.


Experience working with business and industry and a variety of people in an advisory or counseling capacity.


(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)






Ability to speak and write effectively.


Ability to manage diverse activities and meet established deadlines.


Ability to analyze complex educational problems and develop feasible solutions.


Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with federal and state departments of education, testing vendors, local school district personnel, national organizations and universities.

Excellent public speaking skills required for presentations to various stakeholders.


Excellent organizational skills.


Ability to interpret data and research reports that pertain to the alignment of educational opportunities with career opportunities.


Ability to develop positive working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, business and industry, the general public and education institutions. 


Knowledge and experience in the effective use of technological media and material. 


Knowledge in current software applications, programming and hardware.


Ability to problem-solve.


Proficient in data acquisition for research.


Proficient in Microsoft Office software.


This position is required to travel in-state and/or out-of-state.






The incumbent must have the ability to provide leadership and assist in implementing career paths to support Pathways Missouri Work Plan and the vision that all Missouri students will graduate from High School College and Career ready.  The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


Work directly with the Missouri Pathways to Prosperity Director, regional Pathways Steering Committee, Career Education Coordinators, Area Supervisors, schools, and business and the industry contacts.


Collaborate with State Director, Career Education Coordinators, Area Supervisors, State Guidance Advisory Committee, and other Site Coordinators in development of comprehensive grade 7 and beyond career awareness, career exposure and career exploration plans.


Co-create communication work plan to engage area employers, schools, local and state governments, community non-governmental organizations, and other identified entities.  


Prepare and make presentations to diverse stakeholders, including peer-learning meetings, technical assistance workshop, site visits with teachers, administrators, parents, community and employers, including private sector, non-profits and government organizations.


Co-develop a standard process for Career Education Coordinators and Area Supervisors to follow in each school district to ensure successful and consistent methods are deployed for maximum results.


Work closely with each participating employer/provider identified to clarify the type of work-based learning opportunities for students, externships for teachers and number and duration of available slots.


Ensure Career Education Coordinators and Area Supervisors are up-to-date on developments in work-based learning (new tools, research, practices)  

Assist in establishing a system to select students for work-based learning opportunities, in coordination with employers, to ensure compliance with company standards and school policies and procedures.


Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. Community organizations, Advisory Committee, district in-service, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable of program guidelines.

ANNUAL LEAVE:  Accrue 5 hours per month for new full-time employees, longer term State employees can earn more. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.


SICK LEAVE:  Accrue 5 hours per month.  Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.


HOLIDAYS:  12 holidays per year.


RETIREMENT:  Coverage provided through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).


LIFE INSURANCE:  Term life insurance coverage, equal to one times employee's annual salary, through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System.


OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE:  Optional term life insurance available with maximum coverage of six times member’s annual salary.  Plans are also offered for spouse and dependents. Premiums paid by employee.


CAFETERIA PLAN:  Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.


HEALTH PLANS:  Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first day of the following month after employment.


DENTAL PLANS:  Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.


VISION PLAN:  Vision Service Plan (VSP) is available. 


DEFERRED COMPENSATION:  A payroll deduction deferred compensation plan available to defer taxes until retirement by investing in mutual funds and a fixed income account is currently provided.
