DECA State Competition Features Top Marketing Students
More than 1,550 high school marketing students and their teachers Reached New Heights at the 64th annual Missouri DECA State Career Development Conference (March 18-20) at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark. These students will advance to international level competition at the International DECA Career Development Conference that will be held April 28-May 2, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
More than $10,000 of scholarships awarded by DECA was also announced during the conference. In addition, Missouri students also raised more than $64,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of DECA’s international civic consciousness project.
International DECA officer, Micah Melling, was on hand to greet students and their teachers. Melling was a member of the Clinton High School DECA chapter. He is now a freshman at University of Central Missouri and serves as DECA Central Region Vice President.
During the statewide DECA conference Monday, DECA members were evaluated by more than 100 business and industry professionals who serve as competitive events judges. Without their participation in this program, our students would not be able to achieve these accolades. We thank them for their continued support of Missouri DECA by noting their respective business.

Central Region Leadership Conference
Eight members of our State Officer Team attended the Central Region Conference, Dec. 2-4 in Omaha, NE. Team 64 attended the “I AM: A STATE OFFICER” workshop facilitated by Tyler Gassaway. The team developed new leadership skills, networked with other state officers from the Central Regions, and developed a state action team mission statement. Not only did the conference allow DECA members to get “Wild About DECA” but also gain leadership skills that will not only help them with DECA, but every aspect of life.
