Health Sciences Programs in Missouri have been developed to prepare health care workers for an ever-changing health delivery environment.  These programs focus on four areas including secondary Health Services Assistant/Health Occupations Programs, Adult Programs, Post-secondary Programs, and Certified Medication Technician Certification.

The Health Services Assistant Program is a one or two year program created for students interested in pursuing a career in health care.  The program is designed with two parts:  the core curriculum and an emphasis area.  The core competencies include delivery of knowledge and skills common to all health careers, such as, an introduction to the health care delivery system, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, human growth and development, and interpersonal communication.  Students might choose an emphasis area in one of the following career paths:  Nurse Assistant, Physical Therapist Aide, Dental Aide, Pharmacy Aide, Animal Care Technician, Radiology Aide, or Activities Director.  Completion of the core curriculum plus an emphasis area prepares the student for an entry-level job as well as providing a sound base for continuing education.

Adult and Post-secondary Programs provide workers for many of the health-care job openings.  Most programs are one or two years in length and many prepare graduates for certification, registration, or licensure in their chosen health career.  There are a variety of programs to choose from including:  Funeral Service and Mortuary Science, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Health Information/Medical Records Technology, Medical/Clinical Assistant, Medical Transcription, Occupational Therapist Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Radiological Technology, Respiratory Care Therapy, Surgical Technologist, Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Sonographer and Ultrasound Technician, Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technician, Registered Nurse Training, and Licensed Practical Nursing Training.

Certified Medication Technician Certification is available for qualified Registered Nurses who have met requirements mandated by the Missouri League of Nursing, Division of Aging, and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
