Introduction
Welcome
to the Leadership Connections Degree Program of Missouri TSA.
You are about to embark on a journey with TSA that will connect you
with the effective communication skills, self-confidence, and poise
to be a leader. TSA can open many doors to exciting
opportunities for you and your classmates as you accept the
challenge in becoming a better leader through leadership training in
TSA. How far you go in the future will be determined by your
own determination and motivation.
This
program is designed to assist each participant in preparing for
leadership in your Local TSA Chapter or State TSA Association and
for those who aspire for greater things, becoming a National TSA
Officer. This program is divided into three degree's of
achievement that must be obtained in respective order as follows:
1st
Degree - Basic Degree "Leadership Award"
(earned by attending the Annual Missouri TSA Fall Leadership
Connections Conference and completing all the requirements for
the award)
2nd Degree -
"Academic"
3rd Degree -
"Collegiate"
4th Degree -
"Scholar"
Each
participant is encouraged to work at their own pace while preparing
for the exam that is required for each respective degree. The
written exam will be administered by the local chapter advisor at
his or her discretion. In addition, each participant will need
to keep accurate records of their achievements, including
appropriate signatures where required to receive the award and
degree. The awarding of the appropriate degree will be
presented during the Annual Fall Leadership Connections Conference.
Students must achieve at least 85% mastery or higher of the
content to be an eligible recipient for the respective award.
Basic
Degree
Unit of Study

The
first step in the pursuit of the Missouri TSA Connections Degree
Program shall be known as the Missouri TSA Basic Degree. This
degree is available for all Missouri TSA members regardless of
school grade level. A Missouri TSA member will receive this
degree upon the completion of the following requirements.

Participation
in the Annual Missouri TSA Fall Leadership Connections
Conference.
-
Successful
completion of all of the requirements of the Fall Leadership
Connection Conference.
Academic
Degree
Unit
of Study

The
second step in the pursuit of the Missouri TSA Connections Degree
Program shall be known as the Missouri TSA Academic Degree.
This degree is available for all Missouri TSA members regardless of
school grade level. A Missouri TSA member will receive this
degree upon the completion of the following requirements.
-
Official
TSA member in good standing.
-
Serve on a local chapter committee.
-
Attend
the Annual Fall Connections Conference.
-
Completion
of the Missouri TSA Academic Degree written exam, scoring 85 %
or better.
-
The
time limit for the exam shall not exceed 30 minutes.
-
The
exam shall be administered by the local chapter advisor.
-
The
exam shall capture TSA general information and 46 questions
shall constitute a complete exam.
-
The
questions shall be acquired from the Academic Degree
Unit of Study.
-
The
exam questions will consist of matching and multiple-choice
type.
-
The
results shall be announced and awarded at the Annual Fall
Leadership Connections Conference.
-
The
exam for the Missouri TSA Academic Degree will
consist of the following:

The

The
duties of the officers
The
goals and purposes of the organization
The
state officers names, schools, officer title, and
representatives
The
key personnel of TSA (e.g., National Executive
Director, State Advisor, etc.).

Academic
Degree Practice Test
The
exam for the Missouri TSA Academic Degree shall be
graded at the local school by the chapter advisor and the results
reported to the Missouri TSA State Advisor. There is a $5.00
processing fee for the Academic Degree and the members who complete
and/or meet all of the above requirements shall be recognized during
the last session of the Annual Fall Leadership Connections
Conference. Members receiving the TSA Academic Degree will
be awarded the appropriate lapel pin and certificate of achievement
at the Annual Missouri TSA State Leadership and Career Development
Conference in the spring.
Upon receiving the Missouri TSA Academic Degree the
member now becomes eligible to pursue the Missouri TSA
Collegiate Degree.

The
third step in the pursuit of the Missouri TSA Connections Degree
Program shall be known as the Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree.
This degree is available for all Missouri TSA members who have
earned the Missouri TSA Academic Degree. A Missouri TSA member
will receive this degree upon the completion of the following
requirements.
-
Be
a TSA member of good standing
-
Must
have competed for a local TSA chapter office (local chapter
advisor approval).
-
Must have served on a local TSA chapter committee
-
Must give at least one TSA presentation to a
school group or community organization
-
Attend
a TSA Fall Connections Conference.
-
Completed
the Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree written exam
with 90% mastery or above.
-
The
exam shall be administered by the local advisor at the local
school.
-
A
time limit of 30 minutes shall be given to complete the
exam.
-
The
exam shall cover a broad range of TSA information and shall
consist of 43 questions from the following topics:

-
The
Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree test, including answer key,
will be made available to each chapter advisor upon request
and prior to the Missouri TSA Fall Leadership Connections
Conference.
-
The
exam shall consist of multiple choice and matching
questions.
The
Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree exam shall be graded by
the local chapter advisor at the local school and the results
reported to Missouri TSA. Members who meet all of the above
requirements shall be recognized during the last session of the Fall
Leadership Connections Conference.
Once
a member has completed the above portion of the Collegiate Degree
they are eligible to proceed to the next set of requirements for the
Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree. They are the
following:
-
Must
maintain a "B" average or better in all Technology
Education classes.
-
Must
serve on one or more local TSA chapter committee.
-
Must
give one public presentation about TSA to a school group or
community organization.
-
Must
attend and compete in at least one competitive event at the TSA
State Conference.
-
Complete
and send in the Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree application by
February 15th to the Missouri Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education, Industrial Education Section, Technology
Education Program supervisor.
All
applications will be reviewed prior to the Missouri TSA State
Conference. All of the member applicants who meet all the
above requirements shall be awarded the Missouri TSA
Collegiate Degree during the Missouri TSA State
Conference Awards Program. There is a $5.00 processing fee
for the members who are receiving the TSA Academic Degree and they
will be awarded the appropriate lapel pin and certificate of
achievement at the Annual Missouri TSA State Leadership and Career
Development Conference in the spring. Upon receiving the Missouri TSA Collegiate
Degree the member now becomes eligible to pursue the Missouri
TSA Scholar Degree.

Information
National TSA Information
TSA
is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE),
the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), and the
International Technology Education Association (ITEA) as the only
national student organization devoted to the needs of Technology
Education Students.
Pitsco
Inc. is the only company to provide official TSA items and chapter
paraphernalia to TSA members and chapters.
TSA
Incorporated is the legal entity of the adult group responsible for
the overall operation and administration of the student program of
TSA.
TSA
matured in the year of 1978 to Incorporate and venture on its own
from the parent organization of International Technology Education
Association (ITEA), gaining its independence as a student
organization.
The
first TSA National Conference to be independent was convened in
Memphis, Tennessee.
The
TSA Board of Directors is similar to that of the Congress of the
United States in that it legislates policy for National TSA.
The
National TSA Student President serves as a Board of Directors member
representing the student membership.
Leadership Connections Degrees
The
first step of the Leadership Connections Degree is the Basic
Degree.
The
second step of the Leadership Connections Degree is the Academic
Degree.
The
third step of the Leadership Connections Degree is the
Collegiate Degree.
The
fourth step of the Leadership Connections Degree is the Scholar
Degree.
TSA Creed
I

The
fourth step in the pursuit of the Missouri TSA Connections Degree
Program shall be known as the Missouri TSA Scholar Degree.
This degree is the highest degree issued by Missouri TSA. This
degree is available only to those student members who have
previously earned the Missouri TSA Collegiate
Degree. A Missouri TSA member is eligible to receive
this degree upon the completion of the following requirements:
-
Be
a TSA member of good standing.
-
Currently
holding or have held a local TSA chapter office.
-
Must
have attended and/or competed in a competitive event at a past
National TSA Conference.
-
Score
a 90% or above on the Missouri TSA Scholar Degree exam.
Those
TSA members who meet all of the above requirements shall receive
recognition during the last session of the Missouri TSA Fall
Leadership Connections Conference. These student members are
now eligible to proceed to remaining requirements related to the Missouri
TSA Scholar Degree. The remaining requirements include
the following:
-
Must
maintain a "B" average or better in all Technology
Education classes.
-
Must give at least one public presentation about TSA
to a community organization different from the one used to earn
your collegiate degree.
-
Must serve on one or more local TSA chapter
activity committees different from those served on to achieve
the Collegiate Degree.
-
Participate
in a competitive event at the upcoming Missouri TSA State
Conference.
-
Complete
and send in the Missouri TSA Scholar Degree application by
February 15th to the Missouri Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education, Industrial Education Section, Technology
Education Program supervisor.
-
Interview
with the screening committee during the Missouri TSA State
Conference.
-
Provide a professional portfolio demonstrating
your TSA experiences. Utilize photos, school newspaper
articles, copy of transcript and other items as needed.
All
Missouri TSA Scholar Degree applicants resumes shall
be reviewed prior to the Missouri TSA State Conference. Those
members who meet all of the above requirements shall be recognized
at the Missouri TSA State Conference as recipients of the Missouri
Leadership Connections Scholar Degree. There is a
$5.00 processing fee for each of member receiving the
appropriate lapel pin and certificate of achievement and they shall
be entitled to all the rights, privileges, and honors that accompany
this degree at the Annual Missouri TSA State Leadership and Career
Development Conference in the spring.
If
in the event a TSA member is unable to be a candidate for the Missouri
TSA Scholar Degree program due to the fact the he/she will
be graduating from high school, a waiver approval must be obtained
through the State Advisor's office to become an eligible candidate
for completing either the Missouri TSA Collegiate Degree
or the Missouri TSA Scholar Degree during
his/her senior year.
