Spouses to Teachers
A Mobile Career Supporting A Mobile Spouse
Participating states
Spouses to Teachers is available in all 50 states.
Purpose
Spouses to Teachers (STT) program provides support to spouses of active duty military and Selected Reserves in their pursuit of K-12 teaching positions. Limited funding will be provided to eligible spouses to reimburse the cost of examinations required for state teacher licensure/certification. Maximum available financial assistance is $600 per person.
Eligible participants
- Spouses of active duty personnel
- Spouses of members of Selected Reserve and National Guard
- Spouses of members of Individual Ready Reserve recalled to active duty
Primary Audience
- Spouses with less than a baccalaureate degree
- Spouses with baccaleureate degrees or higher
- Spouses with a teacher certification in one state applying for certification in another state
Procedures
- State registration required to apply for stipend of up to $600 for state teacher certification examinations
- State Spouses to Teachers office prepares vouchers approving the examinations and amount authorized to be reimbursed
- Individuals forward the voucher to DANTES/Spouses to Teachers with proof of payment and voiced personal check
- Approved vouchers are paid within 30-45 days of receipt at DANTES

- Transcript review and guidance for starting or completing a degree
- Application assistance for transferring teacher certification examination expenses
- Guidance with financial aid resources available at the state and federal level
- Networking avenues for teaching positions available at the state level
