1. Students recall times when they have had difficulty following written directions. A list of responses may be written on the chalkboard or poster.

2. Teacher models the step-by-step approach of following a set of written directions using the Written Directions handout.

What did you notice about my behavior as I read the directions? Why do you suppose I read the directions completely through one time, then, went back and read them through one-by-one (step-by-step) to complete the task? |
3. Work with the library media specialist for a lesson about alphabetizing used in the library. In particular, discuss authors’ names in fiction.
4. Provide students copies of the Alphabetizing handout, and six people cutouts.
