Oral directions.

 

Use the next few minutes to study the information on the chart called Raking Leaves. The chart shows three steps a person might use to rake leaves.

 

Based on information from the chart, write a detailed set of directions describing the three steps involved in the process of raking leaves. Write one additional step that could be added to the chart to make the directions of the leaf raking process more complete, accurate, and/or easier to understand.

Student Prompt

 

Teacher reads the prompt to the students.

 

During this unit about Living Things, you have learned about changes that occur to plants and animals. Write a paragraph that describes three things you must do to care for a pet. You can write about your own pet or an imaginary pet.

 

Before you write your paragraph, you will use a Pre-Writing graphic organizer to organize your ideas. Use the ideas from the graphic organizer to write a first draft paragraph. Be sure to use a dictionary and the checklist (below) to proofread your first draft paragraph. Make any changes you feel are needed to make your paragraph clear to readers; then, write the final draft paragraph.

 

Checklist:

Ø       Contains a topic sentence and at least three ideas to develop the topic.

Ø       Uses a detail, example, or another type of elaboration to support each one of your ideas. 

Ø       Stays on topic.

Ø       Uses complete sentences.

Ø       Uses specific and relevant language to talk about the topic.

Ø       Includes correct grammar/usage, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
