LEARNING ACTIVITIES
1. Introduce scoring guide for whole expository piece (see TFDEC worksheet handout).
2. Displaying a scoring guide transparency on the overhead, review each item with students. Provide each student a copy of the scoring guide to keep in their writing folders.
3. Using the overhead projector, introduce the graphic organizer with chosen topic. (Note: The graphic organizer used is the paper on which students write their rough draft).
4. Reviewing the touchstone texts, examine how the author begins the writing.
5. Teacher models strategies to develop a topic sentence.
