Four Corners Strategy

How do I do it? Preparation for class: § Collect the four signs provided: strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree. § Make a transparency of the three statements and the journaling statements if using an overhead projector. In the classroom: § Place the four signs in one of each of the four corners or separate parts of the room and set up projector. § Review the following rules with the students: 1. After each statement, determine the sign which best describes your perspective, and move to it. Do not stand between any of them. 2. Briefly explain your choice – one sentence only. 3. Do not talk during the activity. § Reveal the first statement. Randomly call on students to explain their choice. At any time during this process, participants can change corners if they change their minds. After a number of students have given a variety of opinions, reveal the next statement. § When all the statements are discussed, students reflect on the activity through a journal entry, responding to the Four Corners Activity journaling statements on the overhead. § After students complete their reflections, share their thoughts with a partner. § Discuss with the whole class. |
