Example of a friendly letter (for teacher’s modeling)

Dear Class,
We will soon be starting a unit in which we will read about American women who made a positive impact on society. Women have played a large part in shaping the United States. Over time music, fashion, and technology have changed, but the role of women has changed too. Women can now own property, get a job, and have people respect their opinion; that has not always been true.
During this unit we will also be reviewing how to write a friendly letter and compound sentences. When we read about these famous women, we will also study what the passages look like on the page, and we will practice putting events in the correct order, identifying cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, and determining what the author’s purpose was in writing the passage. We will practice each of these skills, so you will be well prepared before you take the final assessment.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Starke
