Students rewrite an assigned passage into modern formal English.

 

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

 

  1. Summarize all scenes in Act V.

 

  1. Model rewriting a passage from Act I, Scene III keeping in mind these questions:

§         What is Casca’s point of view towards the events of the evening?

§         What is Cassius’s point of view?

§         What are the tone words in their descriptions?

 

  1. Divide students into groups. Give each student in the group one character from a particular dialogue. Groups rewrite a specific passage into modern formal English.

 

Note

Each student will be rewriting a different character’s lines, but the lines will fit together so that a group of students will be presenting a short vignette rewritten into modern formal English. Give students summative assessment scoring for rewrites and allow time for asking questions.
