LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  1. Students view two pictures. One of the pictures shows people with great respect for the American flag and the other one shows people treating the flag with disrespect. Ask students the messages both pictures give to the audience. Students write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the feelings shown by the people in each picture. Before writing, students create a graphic organizer to organize their thoughts. Students use the organizer to write a first draft. Advise students to use a dictionary and the checklist to proofread their draft. Students make changes as needed to make the paragraph clear to the audience and write the final draft.
