Lesson One
Formative Assessment
Directions for
folding Poinsettia Napkin Rings
Your parents are having a
formal dinner during the winter holiday season. They have asked you to help by
making napkin rings to use with the rolling fold napkin you learned about in
activity one. Read and follow the directions for making a poinsettia napkin
ring.
- Use construction paper
and handout A to cut two red blooms and one green leaf.
- Use red construction
paper and handout B to cut out the napkin ring.
- Place the green leaf
flat on the desk.
- Place one red bloom on
the top of the leaf turning the bloom so the green leaf shows. Secure with a
dab of glue or tape.
- Place the other red
bloom on the top of the first bloom and arrange so the green leaves and the
other red petal show. Secure with glue or tape.
- Pick the flower up and
fold it in half. Directly in the center, cut a 11/2 long slit
through all layers.
- Fold the napkin in
half.
- Insert the fold
through the slit of the flower.
- Gently pull the napkin
ring through to create a loop.
- Flatten the tabs on
the bottom of the flower and secure both tabs with glue or tape.
- Insert a napkin into
the loop.
