FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 

Students take notes on a given nonfiction passage using a keyword two column chart.

 

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  1. In small groups, students explain why they are required to take notes. A representative from each group adds a reason while teacher compiles a master list.

  1. After reading part of a passage, the teacher will think aloud how to take keyword notes using a two-column chart.

  1. Using a different theme-related passage, students in groups complete a similar chart. Student groups share their charts with the class followed by a discussion of similarities and differences of key words used in charts.
