LESSON TWO:  Use various sources to locate names of people who embody various attributes

 

Using multiple sources, students identify people who fit various categories and attributes.  Using the list of names they gather, students choose two names to research.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

This lesson is assessed through the amount of information gathered.  Teachers grade based upon writing in complete sentences, locating more than one name for each category, etc.

 

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1.        Refer to Lesson One.  Students review worthy attributes, questions, and names brainstormed earlier.

2.        Discuss pre-writing and gathering information to build ideas for research and writing. Students choose people to continue researching after they have gathered all of the names.

3.        Discuss the importance of using more than one source.

4.        Point out the organizational tool in the handout.  Discuss why graphic organizers are used to track information.

5.        Students brainstorm potential research problems and how to overcome them.
