Slam Competition: formative assessment handout

To demonstrate your ability to create and present an expressive presentation, you will compete in a Poetry Slam. Your responsibilities include the following:

• Selecting or writing a poem to perform that falls under the category of Social Commentary
  • Poem’s length should be between 20 and 100 lines
• Practicing in an attempt to memorize your poem so that you can perform, not just read aloud
• Controlling  the volume, pacing, voice, facial expression and body language to create an emotional response from the audience

Remember: this assessment is also a competition that will be judged by the audience so appealing to your audience’s emotion will be very important!
