Thinking About Friendship Through the Narrative Genre

Unit Overview

THINKING ABOUT FRIENDSHIP THROUGH THE NARRATIVE GENRE

2nd grade
9 lessons
This unit focuses on development of well-crafted narrative writing by second grade students. Throughout the unit, students are immersed in narrative writing.  Students study story elements and narrative writing in a variety of texts.
Students apply pre-reading strategies and use text to explore basic story elements.
This unit consists of nine lessons. Students experience the writing process as modeled by the teacher.  They apply understanding of the writing process to produce their own narrative piece.  Students use graphic organizers to create a narrative piece including a main idea and supporting details with the theme of friendship.  Finally, students share writing and practice essential speaking skills.
