FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed by reviewing anecdotal records and through teacher observation, the TFDC Rough Draft graphic organizer, and Conventions Checklist and Scoring Guide.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1.        After reviewing the revision techniques used in Lesson Eight, discuss proofreading and why it is important.  Point out the audience should understand what you are writing and students should be proud of their writing.

2.        Together with students, work on editing a paragraph using the Conventions Checklist and Scoring Guide handout.

Idea

Teacher may transfer the information on the handout to an anchor chart to use in the room.

After giving students a Conventions Checklist and Scoring Guide direct them to proofread and edit their rough draft.  Walk around, conferring with students.

3.        As a group, discuss the changes students made in their writing.  Then students put the piece in final form to prepare for presentation.
