LESSON SEVEN: Conclusion

Review topic sentences and writing conclusions.

 

GRADE-LEVEL EXPECTATIONS

W1A   Follow a writing process to independently use a graphic organizer in prewriting, generate a draft, routinely reread and revise work, routinely edit and proofread for capitalization and ending punctuation, and independently publish writing.

W2A   Create legible compositions with correct spacing between letters in a word and words in a sentence.

W3A   Write narrative text that records a series of events in chronological order and contains story elements.

LS2A   Speak clearly, stay on topic and use appropriate volume and pace when sharing ideas.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed through a review of anecdotal records and teacher observation, and the TFDC graphic organizer.

 

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1.        Review the endings of touchstone texts. Discuss how the author concluded each text.

2.        Establish purpose of and define a conclusion. 

3.        Using ideas from the topic sentence, teacher models writing a conclusion.

4.        Confer with students and make anecdotal records.
