Performance Assessment Part 2:

Objective: Students will use active listening behaviors. LS1B, 1.5

Teacher Support: Announce to the students prior to the showing of the student/peer commercials they will be evaluated randomly for active listening behavior. Teachers will observe clusters of two students in the audience per commercial.

Facial expressions indicate:

Indicates complete involvement and level of enjoyment through active listening behaviors: could include appropriate laughter, nodding of head, smiling; could also be frowning, puzzlement; eyes on video, not looking around or at a watch/clock

Most of the time demonstrates involvement and level of enjoyment through active listening behaviors

Frequent inattentiveness; could include: eyes not on video, reading or daydreaming; little evidence of active listening behaviors with no evidence of personal reaction such as smiling or frowning

 

Other body language shows:

Indicates involvement and attentiveness through active listening behaviors; posture is fairly straight or leaning forward slightly; no distracting behaviors such as drawing or writing, arranging papers , noise making; offers a brief compliment or comment at the end as feedback to the commercial

Indicates involvement and attentiveness through two of the three active listening behaviors (posture, eliminating distractions, and giving brief feedback or encouragement)

Frequently disruptive and not on task; little attention to desired active listening behaviors; may include trying to get others’ attention, making noise, talking unrelated to commercial.
