Exerts leadership in and cooperates with the superintendent,
elementary and secondary assistant superintendents in charge of curriculum,
principals, and library media specialists in developing and extending the
role of library media services in the curriculum.

Administer the policy guidelines for challenged materials:
copyright, preview and purchase of media; and selection, distribution, and
maintenance of library media centers (LMCs) hardware.

Assist the Director of Human Resources in the recruitment
and hiring of certified library media specialists (LMS) and non certified
staff for the LMCs.

Evaluates periodically the staff of the office of Library
Media Services and the Resource Library.

Supervises the Professional Library Media Collection both
print and non-print.

Works cooperatively with the Superintendent, Business
Director, administrators, and staff in developing the budgets for the LMCs.

Administers the library media coordinators LMC operating
budgets.

Prepares and administers the district library media
director’s budgets.

Cooperates with the Director of Technology in developing a
three year plan for maintaining and upgrading equipment and the
transformation of school libraries into library multimedia centers.

Establishes common library procedures that will standardize
the operation of LMCs throughout the district.

Assist the library media specialist’s in developing and
maintaining an inventory system for all materials, including hardware, and
software in each building and library media center.

Supervises the purchasing, processing, distribution, and
maintenance of print and non-print materials for the Lee’s Summit media
centers.

Trains and supervises the data entry clerk for retrospective
conversion and MARC record entry.

Develops and maintains a Union Catalog of all the LMC and
district print and non-print holdings.

Writes and administrates the development and acquisition of
special grants and funding.

Works with the architects in the planning and designing of
new and remodeled library media centers.

Maintains a positive public relations program promoting the
schools and library media services.

Administers the Resource Library and Video Taping Center for
the school district.

Assists all staff with resources for necessary research.

Fulfills additional responsibilities as assigned by the
Superintendent.

Develops teacher in-service education and information
programs concerning library media services.

Encourages and supports the district library media
specialists participation in professional library and educational
organizations.

Maintains and promotes professional growth through
participation in professional organization, reading of professional
publications, and development of in-service programs.
