Answer to Problem 12:

The fireman’s hose (when he is on the ground will not reach the roof since the maximum height the water will reach would be 40 meters.  The vertex of the graph is at (40, 40).  Therefore his ladder would need to be taller than ten meters in order to spray the roof.  In addition to the vertex, the student should explain why the vertex is an important point of reference (it has to be the maximum given the rise and fall of the water).
