Information is provided to Missouri teachers about obtaining forgiveness and deferment for their federal Perkins and Stafford Loans. If a teacher is teaching in a teacher shortage area as determined by the U.S. Department of Education, or is teaching in a building which is considered "impoverished" by the state based on free and reduced lunch count, that teacher may be eligible for loan forgiveness or deferment. Stafford interest can be lowered by 2% for teachers. For additional information:

Institute on Drug Abuse Offers Free Resources
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has created the NIDA Goes Back to
School campaign for children, teens, and the adults who influence them. The
campaign is a source for FREE science-based publications and teaching materials
that emphasize the consequences of drug abuse on the brain and the body. Some

A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone that sustains winds of 74 miles per
hour and greater. Hurricanes occur in the tropical regions of the world in seven
distinct basins, and are called Hurricanes in the Caribbean, Atlantic, Gulf of
Mexico, and eastern Pacific, Typhoons in the western Pacific, and Cyclones in

7. Project Title: The
Cinderella Project (Grades 4-7, Ages 9-12)
Project Begin & End Dates: This four week project and schedule can be
coordinated with partner school from the ePALS website (http://www.epals.com/esearch/?st=ps&less=1).
Project Summary: The Cinderella Project is a collaborative writing
project where students from different countries study and compare cultural
stories of Cinderella. This project was developed to help students communicate
and share cultural impressions of the themes and ideas in the fairy tale of
Cinderella. Through writing, research and online communication, students will
share their impressions of the story. ePALS helps students locate classroom
partners from different countries to make cultural comparisons. Teachers can
decide whether this project will be done between classes or between individual
students in each class and choose from the activities that align to this
project.

Have a Dream (High School)
Project Begin & End Dates: Planning now. Project begins with school
year. October – April
Project Summary: The I Have a Dream program is for school classes and
individual youth through the secondary school level. It aims at helping kids and
youth realize their dreams about their future and a better world. Students are
challenged to plan, design, and implement an Internet based project to realize
their favored dreams in collaboration with peers in other countries. This
project will run parallel in many languages.
