NAEP Released Assessment Items with GLEs/CLEs Classifications
NAEP, the largest nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in various subject areas, provides a common measure of student achievement across the country. The results of NAEP are released yearly as The Nation’s Report Card.
Following each assessment, NAEP releases dozens of sample questions to the public – currently more than 3,000 questions are available in the NAEP Questions Tool. Because NAEP assessments are given at grades 4, 8 and 12 only, the majority of released items cluster around those grade levels.
Missouri educators classified each NAEP item by the appropriate Grade-Level Expectation (GLE) or Course-Level Expectation (CLE). Additional items are added to this pool as they are released, reviewed by Missouri educators and approved by the applicable DESE content area Director. Plans are also underway to classify each item by a corresponding Common Core State Standard (CCSS). Used in conjunction with other assessments (formative, benchmark, etc.), the NAEP assessment items offer a valuable additional resource for teachers to use in the classroom.
The released items are organized by grade level and by GLE/CLE. The released questions (once selected) provide additional information which may be useful to educators: key/ scoring guides, anchor papers (actual student papers representing various score points); national and state performance data on the item (the performance of Missouri students compared to those of other states and the nation); and the corresponding passage for reading items. The NAEP Questions Tool allows users to select questions, answers, student responses and performance summary data in two formats: HTML or Word.
The material in the NAEP Questions Tool is in the public domain (excluding any third-party copyrighted material it may contain); therefore, permission is not required to reproduce it.
