New short informative brochures about the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act (FERPA) are available from the U. S. Department of Education.
The "Parents' Guide to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act: Rights
Regarding Children's Educational Records" is a brochure for parents
explaining parents' rights. "Balancing Student Privacy and School Safety: A
Guide to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act for Elementary and
Secondary Schools" focuses on school safety. Both brochures can be
