Monitoring Timelines for Initial Reviews
for Special Education
School Year Prior to MSIP
- Fall, district attends monitoring training.
- March 1, district submits self-assessment via IMACS
- Early Summer, districts selected for on-sites. Focus Monitoring, will be in conjunction with Compliance, Effective Practices and Data Coordination.
- Spring/Summer, a desk review occurs. The supervisors review self-assessment, making changes to calls where necessary and/or requesting additional documentation from the district.
During MSIP School Year
- Desk Review report is completed and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) is generated in IMACS.
- If the district is found out of compliance, they will be required to submit a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) within 30 days of receipt of the Desk Review report.
- Once CAP is received – supervisor will review the CAP. If approved, the district will be notified through IMACS. If not approved, supervisor will contact the district to assist in CAP development or to determine if a consultant is needed to assist with the development.
- Once CAP is approved – districts continue to work on correction of non-compliance. Compliance consultant will be available to assist the district in correcting areas of non-compliance.
- When the district has five (5) examples of correction non-compliance the description of the evidence of correction and the date of document submission can be entered into IMACS. Documentation can be sent to DESE at any time during the 12 month period.
- If the district remains out of compliance on any item after 12 months from the date of their Desk Review report, Enforcement Actions will be imposed and a compliance consultant assigned.
- If district remains out of compliance, sanctions may be invoked. The supervisor works with the district and the compliance consultant to assist the district in correcting areas of non-compliance.
