Subject: School Psychologist Intern Project Source: Leone Herring, Supervisor, Effective Practices Intended Audience: Superintendents, Special Education Administrators, Principals Date: May 7, 2008 The Division of Special Education will offer supplemental funding to districts that employ school psychologist interns in public agencies during the 2008-09 school year. Funds will be allocated at a rate of up to $7,500 per intern with a total of 25 interns funded statewide and will be on a first come first serve basis. School psychologists can help reduce needless referrals and improve students' academic performance via development and implementation of academic and behavior interventions. They can also provide research-based pre-referral interventions and document student response to interventions to meet recent revisions in federal special education laws. The goals of this project are: to assist districts in utilizing school psychologists to support all students, to provide districts with qualified personnel to assist in assessment and data interpretation under NCLB and IDEA, and to provide qualified individuals to assist in developing positive behavior systems. The deadline for applying for the funds is August 1, 2008.
