The State of Missouri will offer state subsidy funding for candidates wanting
to achieve National Board Certification.
To be eligible for state funding you must:
- hold a baccalaureate degree;
- have three years of teaching experience prior to submitting an application,
- have held a valid state teaching license for those three years, or where a license is not required, currently teaching in a public school in Missouri, and
- complete and mail all required information to the The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education/The Leadership Academy.
National Board cost breakdown for awarded subsidy candidates
- $1,250 Federal subsidy for allotted candidates
- $750 from State Professional Development Grant
- $500 from candidate, local PDC, School District, Teacher Organizations, or other sponsors (candidate must designate what RPDC region they are associated with). Candidates that receive state subsidy funding will only be responsible for the first $500.
Total Fee = $2,500
The Department of Veterans Affairs will provide reimbursement for veterans seeking certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Teachers can be reimbursed up to $2,000 for fees required to obtain NBC. Also, they will reimburse fees for retaking the assessment. To receive this benefit, veterans must be eligible for the Montgomery G.I. Bill Active Duty, the Veterans Educational Assistance Program or Dependents’ Education Assistance Program.
