About Family and Consumer Sciences
Family and Consumer Sciences Education programs prepare students for adult roles, family responsibilities, and careers related to family and consumer science content. Successful families do not just happen; they require sustained effort. Preparing indFebruary 29, 2008uilding strong families and a productive work force. Nearly one-third of the occupations expected to experience the largest growth in Missouri during this decade are related to family and consumer sciences content. Students can prepare for virtually hundreds of current and emerging careers such as dietetics, interior design, hospitality, fashion, food service, consumer services, education and family and children services.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Section provides leadership, technical assistance, financial support and professional development activities for implementing and maintaining programs and the student career and technical organization, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Programs are located in comprehensive high schools, area career and technical centers, community colleges and universities.
Family and Consumer Sciences program design is composed of a coherent sequence of courses. The curriculum includes four process skills, which are incorporated into each of the content areas. These process skills align with the four goals of the Missouri Academic Performance (Show-Me) Standards.
