(Reading About Career Experiences) |
Missouri's Career and Technical Student Organizations (DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, SkillsUSA, TSA) have joined forces to promote reading about career experiences! Focusing on grades 2-3, CTSO chapters are encouraged to develop school and/or district wide reading projects. CTSO members and elementary school students who participate in the program will be eligible for local and state recognition. While the program does not intend to directly teach reading skills to student, it is hoped that by having secondary students interact in a positive way with elementary students, both the high school students and the elementary students will be encouraged to continue reading for fun and for information. An information toolkit of resources will be available free upon request to local CTSO advisors. All FCCLA chapters are encouraged to incorporate RACE Into Reading as a part of their local program of work. It especially fits into intra-curricular projects in the child development and early childhood careers area. Chapters completing a RACE Into Reading project are encouraged to use it as a part of STAR Events, Community Service Project, and other applicable national FCCLA recognition programs. |

The 2008-09 school year will provide members the opportunity to participate in twenty-four STAR Events. (Subject to change) Events include: |

* - Missouri State sponsored events only |
The affiliation deadline for STAR Events participants is December 20. Affiliation must be sent with payment to the State FCCLA Office with a postmark by December 20. Students participating in district STAR Events, especially graduating seniors, should be made aware of the dates of the State Leadership Conference and National Leadership Meeting to make sure they can attend and participate fully. Incoming state officers and national candidates may not participate in STAR Events as it will interfere with State Leadership Conference and National Leadership Meeting responsibilities and training sessions. In addition, State Leadership Conference voting delegates and ushers should not be STAR Events participants. Please review the STAR Events manual carefully and thoroughly with participants as disqualification is uncomfortable for everyone concerned. To allow more participation at state STAR Events, each region will be able to send the top TWO Gold STAR winners to state STAR Events. In order to provide adequate evaluators and consultants for state STAR Events, each participating chapter will be required to provide one volunteer to assist in some way with state STAR Events. Volunteers may be students or adults. Faith Stonner , State 1st Vice President from Region 13, is the State Executive Council member in charge of STAR Events. Her advisor, Marilyn Franken will be the 2009 STAR Events Coordinators. The Regional 1st Vice Presidents and advisors are in charge of STAR Events throughout the state. Contact them for information on deadlines, event dates and location. |
