Dr. Dennis Cooper Named New Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Quality Schools
Dr. Dennis Cooper is the new Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Quality Schools for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Dr. Cooper has worked in the Department since 2004 as the Area Supervisor of Instruction for the southwest region. Prior to coming to the Department, he worked as a teacher and an administrator for 32 years. Dr. Cooper has a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Missouri State University, an education specialist in educational administration degree from Central Missouri State University, and a doctorate in educational administration from University of Kansas.
The Afterschool Program in the Extended Learning Section is now part of the Office of Quality Schools under Dr. Dennis Cooper (previously served by Dr. Kathy Thornburg under the Office of Early and Extended Learning).
Missouri Afterschool Retreat Reading and Assessment Grant Awards Issued
Congratulations to the four (4) recipients of the Missouri Afterschool Retreat Reading and Assessment Grant. These grants were made possible through a trust fund in which contributions on Missouri’s income tax returns were made. In the event that tax refunds were not received, contributions could still be made to this fund by including a separate check, draft or other negotiable instrument with a tax payment, or contributions could be sent in separately throughout the year.
