From Sharon Sumner, Sullivan:
- Our school's theme this year is "Celebrate the Past....Create the Future" in honor of Sullivan's Sesquicentennial (150 years). While researching for some ideas, I came across this tidbit of information found on the International Dairy Foods Association website...."Stephen Sullivan of Sullivan, Missouri, was one of the first known independent operators in the ice cream cone business. In 1906, Sullivan served ice cream cones (or cornucopias, as they were still called) at the Modern Woodmen of America Frisco Log Rolling in Sullivan, Missouri."
In light of this fascinating bit of information I thought it would be fun to run a survey, allowing people to vote for their favorite flavor of ice cream. Students could then use the results of the survey in math lessons to construct charts and graphs. With the results constantly changing, graphs could be made periodically with entirely different figures each time.
Please help us out by having your students vote for their favorite flavors. Please share the link with others, too. Keep the survey site bookmarked and use the results in your class, too.

- We are fourth grade in Farmington. We held a Social Studies night last year. The theme was Famous Missourians. The students and parents (and teachers) loved it! We had such fun. Students dressed up as their famous Missourian, they were supposed to be a statue so they stood on a lunch crate that was decorated with facts about their person. They had a button on their hand and when someone came by, they pushed the button. Then the student told interesting facts about their famous Missourian until the listener could guess who they were. Most of the time they could guess easily just because of how the student was dressed.

- We had a Missouri Night too. We congregated in the auditorium First where we had all 115 of our students' Missouri Projects displayed (I have an idea list for the projects) We had a patriotic opening. Next, we did a Missouri Rap, a Square dance, and then the Missouri Waltz. First 8 pairs of students danced with each other while the remainder of the fourth grade sang the waltz, then the students picked partners from the audience. After the group performances the parents could view the projects, go to a computer room to see PowerPoint displays on Missouri, visit another room where students were dressed in character and told about their Famous Missourian's life, went to tables with pioneer games, or just enjoyed the ambiance of days gone by. Parents and administrators alike loved the night.
