Maysville Students Win State "LifeSmarts"
Competition, Advance to Nationals

A team of students from Maysville High School captured the Missouri State LifeSmarts Championship March 2 in Jefferson City. The program, developed by the National Consumers League, is a consumer education competition that tests teens in grades 9-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities.

The other five teams participating in the state finals were: Clopton High School (two teams), second and fifth place; California High School, third place; Couch High School, fourth place; and Osage High School, sixth place. These finalists were among 23 teams that initially competed in the LifeSmarts online competition to qualify for the state finals.

Students were welcomed to the competition by State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, Rep. John Bowman, and Laura Krasser, chief counsel for the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s office.

The Maysville "Savvy Consumers Team" is now qualified for the national LifeSmarts competition to be held April 16-19 in San Francisco. American Century Investments of Kansas City is underwriting the students’ trip to the national competition.

The LifeSmarts program is sponsored by American Century Investments, Missouri Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and Central Bank.
