Tony Stansberry Will Join DESE Staff as
Representative for the Kansas City Area
Tony L. Stansberry, former superintendent of the Lee’s Summit School District, is joining the staff of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education next month.
Dr. Stansberry will join the DESE staff October 1 as supervisor of instruction for the Kansas City area. He will represent the state education agency and work with local school officials, board members and citizens in six counties (Cass, Clay, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray).
Dr. Stansberry’s career in public education spans almost 40 years. He retired this year after 10 years as superintendent of the fast-growing Lee’s Summit School District.
"We are very pleased that Dr. Stansberry is joining the DESE team. He is a highly regarded school leader who is known and respected throughout the state, not just in the Kansas City area," said Commissioner of Education D. Kent King.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has 10 area supervisors who live in different regions of the state and work directly with school districts in their respective areas. The area supervisors work with local school boards and school officials on policy issues and on meeting the state’s accreditation standards.
