Former Festus Superintendent Will Be
DESE’s Representative for the St. Louis Area
Robert M. Taylor, who recently retired after 17 years as superintendent of the Festus R-VI School District, has been appointed to be the regional representative of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the St. Louis area.
Commissioner of Education D. Kent King said Taylor will begin working August 14 as an area supervisor of instruction. Dr. Taylor will work with local school officials, school board members and citizens in St. Charles, St. Louis and Jefferson counties and in the St. Louis Public Schools. He replaces Dr. Ronald Berrey.
Dr. Taylor has spent 36 years in public education as a teacher, principal and superintendent. His father, Dr. Robert Taylor, also worked for the state education agency for 25 years as the director of health, physical education and safety.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has 10 area supervisors who live in different regions of the state and work directly with school districts in their respective areas. The area supervisors work with local school boards and school officials on policy issues and on meeting the state’s accreditation standards.
"Dr. Taylor is a respected school leader who is very familiar with the state’s accreditation standards and procedures. He will be a valuable asset for our agency and for educators in the St. Louis area," King.
