Six Teachers Chosen as
Teacher of the Year Finalists
State education officials announced today six educators as finalists in the 2006-2007 Missouri Teacher of the Year program.
Nominations for the award were submitted by 48 public school districts across the state. A selection committee appointed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reviewed the candidates’ written applications and chose the finalists yesterday (Aug. 22) in Jefferson City. The finalists are:
- Carol Dunn, science teacher, Summit Lakes Middle School, Lee’s Summit School District
- Kevin Hampton, video production teacher, McCluer North High School, Ferguson-Florissant School District
- Darryl Johnson, communication arts teacher, Smithville High School
- Robert Swingler, chorus teacher, Hazelwood East High School, Hazelwood School District
- Linda Wiederholt, math teacher, Plaza Middle School, Park Hill School District, Kansas City
- Lario Yerino, chemistry and physics teacher, Oak Park High School, North Kansas City School District
The selection committee will interview the finalists Aug. 31 in Jefferson City to select the new Missouri Teacher of the Year. Missouri’s Teacher of the Year automatically becomes a candidate in the national Teacher of the Year program.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education conducts the Missouri Teacher of the Year program with financial support provided by the Boeing Company, St. Louis.
