Marketing Education Students to Compete Monday

More than 1,400 high school students from across Missouri will vie for statewide honors in a marketing competition that starts Monday, March 19.  The contests are part of the annual Missouri DECA State Career Development Conference held at the Lodge of Four Seasons at Lake of the Ozarks.

Students will test their skills learned in marketing and career education classes in 36 events, such as international business plans, marketing research, entrepreneurship, fashion merchandising promotion, advertising, and e-commerce business plans. Students qualified to compete at the state level by placing highly in district competitions held in February.

More than $10,000 of new scholarships awarded by DECA and Missouri businesses also will be announced during the conference.

Winners will advance to international DECA competition to be held April 28-May 1 in Orlando, Florida.

The theme of this year’s conference is "Access to Excellence," focusing on professional development, leadership, dressing for success, and community service.  Missouri students have raised funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of DECA’s international civic consciousness project.

DECA is an international association of high school students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service.  Missouri DECA serves more than 9,000 students throughout the state.
