The five Pioneers will be formally recognized Monday during the Department’s 46th annual conference for school administrators at Tan-Tar-A, Osage Beach. The conference luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. This year’s Pioneers in Education are:

He was an area supervisor of instruction for the Department of Education for 22 years, where he retired in 1992.

Peggy L. Payne, Neosho, who served the Neosho School District for 46 years as librarian and media specialist (1951-1997).

Margaret G. Roam, Ellsinore, who taught for 37 years in the Carter County area, before retiring in 1979. She continued to serve the East Carter County R-II School District as a substitute teacher until 2000.

Sen. Yvonne S. Wilson, Kansas City, who spent 35 years with the Kansas City School District as a teacher and administrator (1950-1985). She was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1999 and to the Missouri Senate in 2004.

Max D. Wolfrum, Webster Groves, who began his career as a teacher in the Webster Groves School District in 1959 and served as superintendent from 1983-1991. Upon retirement, he served as interim superintendent of the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
