Tom Quinn Promoted to Assistant Commissioner at DESE
Thomas W. Quinn has been named Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Career Education at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Commissioner of Education D. Kent King announced Quinn’s promotion last week (March 28).
Quinn joined the state education agency in July 2001 as director of the School Governance and Transportation Section. In October 2007, he was named interim Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Career Education.
Prior to joining DESE, Quinn served the Centralia Public Schools for 28 years (1972-2000). He was a teacher, principal and athletic director before becoming superintendent of the school district in 1986.
The Division of Career Education administers a wide range of programs that serve the career and technical-training needs of high school students, postsecondary students, adults and industry. The division also manages the high school equivalency testing program (GED) as well as adult education and workforce-development services.
“Tom Quinn is an outstanding member of the DESE team, and he has done an excellent job in assuming the leadership of the Division of Career Education. I am grateful for his continuing service,” said Commissioner King.
