Subject: Career Planning/FREE/Missouri Connections Changes

Source: Dan Gordon, Supervisor, Effective Practices

Intended Audience: Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, Counselors, Administrators

Date: June 15, 2010 is an educational and career planning system that provides Missouri students in middle school, high school, and college, their parents, counselors, and educators with educational and career planning information and resources at no charge.  Effective July 1, 2010, services will be expanded to adults seeking services through Missouri Career Centers across the state.

The University of Oregon won the state's competitive bid process in May to become the new host for the system effective July 1.  The new platform will be powered by the University of Oregon's Career Information System.

Through this free resource, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and students have access to a variety of age-appropriate transition assessments as well as tools for career exploration and for creating a course of study.  The use of this system can help schools meet compliance requirements and State Performance Plan targets for postsecondary transition planning for students with IEPs.
