On May 7, 2010, a letter was sent by electronic mail to all superintendents with an attachment containing instructions for adopting the district's Local Special Education Compliance Plan and for completing and submitting the Certification Statement concerning this plan. Recent changes to federal and state regulations have been incorporated into this Local Compliance Plan. We recommend a thorough review of its contents and careful consideration of the agency's responsibilities in serving students with disabilities.
The certification needs to be completed, including signatures of authorized representatives of the local agency, and returned to our office by no later than October 1, 2010. The Local Compliance Plan in its entirety, as well as the letter, instructions, and certification statement may all be found at the following website: http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/Compliance/MCPindex.html.
