Date: October 1, 2010
The Office of Special Education provides funding for districts to obtain assistive technology required in student IEPs. Missouri Assistive Technology (MoAT) is administering the program through an application process. Beginning October 1, 2010, the Assistive Technology Reimbursement (ATR) Program will have two options for technology purchase when completing the application process. Thanks to Marty Exline of MoAT for this creative idea.
The district purchases the technology and then requests reimbursement. (Current ATR Program)
MoAT purchases the technology and provides the technology long term to the student at no cost to the district.
Option B has been made available to provide districts with numerous benefits: the district does not have to purchase the technology; MoAT will provide the technology within 30 days of the approval of the district application; technology loans can be made to the district from the Educational Technology Consortium (ETC) loan program if delays occur; MoAT will provide a long-term loan for ATR approved technology to districts anywhere in Missouri for as long as the student needs the technology; if the student's program changes and the technology is no longer needed, the equipment is returned to MoAT and becomes a part of the ETC loan library for another student; and, MoAT will work with the district to maintain and upgrade technology purchased through the ATR Option B program at no cost to the district. The district is responsible for repairs due to damage or misuse.
New instructions and applications have been posted to the website http://www.at.mo.gov/speced.html.
