Subject: FY12 Payment for High Need Fund (HNF)

The FY12 High Need Fund (HNF) payment for services provided during the 2010-11 school year will be made in two monthly installments.  The first installment of approximately 84% will be made in the March 2012 payment transmittal.  This payment will include both state and federal funding.  Due to the significant increase in the amount of reimbursement requested through the HNF, the Department will not be able to pay the second installment (approximately 16%) until the July 2012 payment transmittal.  This portion will be strictly state funding.

Districts may view the FY12 HNF payment amounts at:

The state funded portion will be listed under revenue code 5381 and the federally funded portion will be listed under revenue code 5437 in the payment transmittal.  Because districts receive a portion of the HNF payment from federal funds, these funds must be expended or coded to a journal entry/correction within three days of receipt.  Further federal guidelines and resources are located at:

Please note that applications for the current 2011-12 school year (FY13) will be available in September 2012 and due November 30, 2012.  This date has been moved forward so the Department can request more accurate appropriation amounts for legislator approval.
